Nick Newton, B.F.A., has cultivated a diverse and evolving practice that bridges the disciplines of illustration, graphic design, and ceramics. During his formal art education at the Alberta University of the Arts, Newton spent a year as an exchange artist at Canberra’s School of Art in Australia, where explorations in process and material encouraged a multifaceted approach to making.

Additionally, Newton has decades of experience as a professional graphic artist, art director and creative director. Such extensive commercial design experience brings a refined visual language and conceptual clarity to his current artistic practice.

Most recently, Nick has extended his creative voice into ceramics. These pieces reflect his graphic sensibilities and illustrative style, resulting in work that is both tactile and visually narrative. Continuing to explore the intersections of media, his art reflects a dialogue between process and play; utility and imagination.
